June 04, 2019: PRAYERS FOR SUMAIYA NEEDED

Today our Executive Director was in Hospital to visit Sumaiya and is worried Sumaiya’s condition is not good. The doctors want Sumaiya to feed well before they can take her into surgery but her will to eat is very low. She is emotionally low with a poor appetite for food yet proper feeding is key in her healing process. All the food and juices provided to her go to waste which is worrying the nurses and the CERESAV team.

Your prayers are needed that Sumaiya will regain the will to look forward to recovery.

Prayers for Baby Jovan, Sumaiya’s Baby

We wish to ask for your prayers for yet another new challenge that the CERESAV team is faced with. Baby Jovan, Sumaiya’s Newborn was released from the nursery to join his mother. Unfortunately, Sumaiya’s condition in the burns’ ward does not permit her to keep her baby with her. Doctors advised that the baby should be kept out of the hospital, away from his mother until she will be discharged from the hospital. Currently, the CERESAV Executive Director Justine Mpagi is taking care of Baby Jovan in her home until Sumaiya is discharged from the hospital. Unfortunately, Sumaiya has no home to return to once discharged from the hospital. Every prayer and support offered during his trying time are greatly appreciated.

Prayers for Sumaiya Namwanje and her Baby

We kindly ask you to keep baby Jovan in prayers. Jovan was born on the morning of April 10, 2017. His mother Sumaiya Namwanje was attacked with acid by her boyfriend when she was 7 months pregnant. She is still in the burns wars battling wounds. We have been doing everything we can with hopes that baby Jovan would be transferred to his mother’s ward by end of this week. Thankfully, Baby Jovan and his mother were able to bond during this Easter holiday. But we are not certain if doctors will keep them together.

Prayers for Erias

Erias Sekaziga is a 26 year old man from Kireka, Kampala who was attacked with acid in January of 2016.  He was attacked by an unidentified person while on his way home from work and does not know the perpetrator’s motivation for the attack.  Erias lost his ears instantly and later his right eye.  He required a blood transfusion, which caused his right hand to swell due to blood clotting.  He remains in severe pain and asks that people pray for his pain reduction.  He believes prayers are what can save his life.

Zalika Nakakawa is a 56 year old woman who was attacked with acid in 2013.  She was attacked by her friends due to land disputes.Due to the acid attack, she lost her right ear, which caused hearing problems.  Her right arm also became fused with her body and her left arm has become lame.  Rose (pictured with Zalika), from Good Samaritan Ministries, has helped care for her and brought her back to Mulago Hospital for a reconstructive surgery on her arm.  The surgery was successful but Zalika still needs two more surgeries, one on her ear, and one on her neck, which after the acid attack, is fused with her chin.  Zalika is from a Muslim background but now practices Christianity.  She believes in the power of prayer and calls upon everyone to put her in prayers.  She requests prayers specifically for a reduction in her pain (she is still experiencing severe pains in her arm and ear) and for the ability to get the corrective surgeries she needs for her ear and neck.

Translated from Luganda: “My name is Nakakawa Zalika aged 56.  I was attacked with acid in 2014. After the attack, I lost one ear, was blinded in one eye, and the arm became stiff and paralyzed.  I would like to thank all the doctors for the work they have done. I would also like to all people from different religious backgrounds for the prayers you have been sending to me. I am so happy.  May God bless you.”
